The Diary of Anne Frank at The Whole Backstage Theatre

In our much anticipated 51st Season opener, “The Diary of Anne Frank” comes to The Whole Backstage Theatre beginning September 20th!

“The Diary of Anne Frank” by Wendy Kesselman, based on the book by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett is an adaptation of the book “The Diary of a Young Girl” by Anne Frank. Directed by April Russell, the play details the experiences of Anne, a Jewish teenager who went into hiding with her family during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands in World War II. Set in a hidden annex in Amsterdam, the story captures the claustrophobic existence of eight people who must live in silence to avoid detection by the Nazis. Through Anne’s diary entries, the play portrays her reflections on life, her hopes, fears, and the complex relationships among those in hiding. The narrative ultimately underscores themes of resilience, hope, and the human spirit’s endurance amidst profound adversity.
